The last few days, when I was watching my fish tank at night, I saw one of my white cloud minnows and my zebra danio courting each other, doing their mating display to each other for a long time, repeatedly, as if they seriously wanted to mate with each other. I saw them do it again a few more times occasionally at some times of the day. Could this mating really go through and possibly create a danio/minnow hybrid? And if not, why would two species of fish want to try and do so with each other; are the zebra danio and white cloud just a little confused?

Anyone else had two different fish species try to mate with one another?

I doubt the eggs would be fertalized, and if so they would probably be mutations. If it were successful, I would keep them, but I wouldnt ever sell them.

What were they doing? How can you tell if they are mateing?

Bump!

Well, they didn't actually "mate", though they tried to attract each other's attention and display their "courtship" dance to each other (fanning out their fins, flicking around). They've been doing this quite often and for a while now, especially at night for some odd reason. They keep doing it day after day. So, it seems that they want to attempt to mate and breed but I'm not sure if they will (most likely not successfully as they are different species).

Thats Sweet!
