I picked up 6 long finned zebras last night and noticed tonite that 2 of them seem like they have bite marks in them. They seem to nip/play w/ eachother alot but could they be actually getting that agressive w/ eachother. I don't think its the parrot cause he doesnt pay any attention to them and hes always on the bottom half and i don't think he could catch them. The severum is still pretty small and ignores everyone. I moved the dwarf gourami into a ten gallon in my daughters room before i put them in cause he was actually causing trouble and nipping at everybody so it wasn't him. I didnt notice these marks when i put them in but they move so much its hard to tell? but they were in a tank w/ all zebras. Also i just noticed 1 looks diiferent like it may be a lepoard has dots not lines and hes the one that looks like he got it the worst would that matter would he not get along as well w/ the others? it seems like he schools w/ them no problems?

Its probobly from where the school nips and plays with one another. If your worried about it adversly afecting his help, ad about a teaspoon of kosher salt to the water for every 5 or so gallons. It will promote his slime coat.

I have been wondering much the same thing with mine. I only have 3 left, but two weeks ago, I had one that truly seemed battered (I didn't see teeth marks though). I thought he was going to die. But he's recovered and back in normal form.

Since then, I've been watching them carefully and it seems that one of the three zebra danios seems to have gotten territorial. Especially when I drop in food. It's like it's all his and will chase any other fish away.

Other times, he will swim around gladly with a third zebra danio, but just does not seem to like that second one that was battered. The second one now just hides most of the day. (incidentally, I had removed the mean danio for a while and the second one came out from hiding and was gladly swimming along - until I put the mean one back, then he went right back to hiding).

I certainly understand that they do play rough, but this seems like something more. In my case, it's seemed to have gone downhill, after the death of the 4th. So, I think, for me, it might have something to do with not enough danios in our tank.

But, after watching this, I do believe they can be aggressive with each other. I need to research this a little better myself.

same happened to my friend, he bought some Plantamin to increase his Iron and plant growth and it helped the Dano to regrow his fins. Then when he added his blue lobster to the tank the Zerbra danio calmed down and never bit the other one again.

Ye thats an extreme way for you to do it but it worked lol

my guys have bites to the body itself not just fins so i'm hoping they recover. they seem ok/still active but i'm not sure how bad they are there are red marks/like blood where they were bitten.
