zebra nerites

What a lovely tank, i would love one of those tanks in the wall. I think they look just awsome.

for reference Nerite eggs need salt water to hatch

my nerites happly slog away on the glass and also wonder about for any left over food, or micro algae wafers that the fish, shrimp and apple snails didnt get at yet. I do cultivate my own hair algae in a box in the back garden though. wrapped it round a chopstick and stuck it into the substrate. It lasted all of about 10 minutes lol. I also have some of my pots soaking in there to get a nice build up of algae as all my fish love the stuff. :)

Thanks for the advice. It sounds like it is worth trying. I do have a few more questions:

1) How many of them should I pick up to help with cleaning duties in the 125?
I usually say one nerite per 10g or so for long term. They are very proficient at algae eating.
2) I have a group of frontosa fry that I will be shipping out sometime in the near future (they are in a 55 gallon tank). I could use that tank as a qt tank. I will let the brown algae accumulate as a food source. Are there other food sources that I would need once they have cleaned up all the algae.
They can be difficult to supplement. I have had marginal luck getting them to eat algae wafers, zucchini (blanched), and snail jello.
3) Eggs. How much of a"problem" will I have with snail eggs with these guys and are there any natural preditors that will eat the eggs. I am just note sure if the eggs will create another mainteance item for me.
The eggs are like little grains of salt/sesame seeds. They are laid individually on the glass, rocks, plants, wood, etc. They can be a pain to remove. Nothing will really eat them. The eggs may hatch, but the larvae will not develop into baby snails as they require varying levels of salinity.
Thanks again, Russ

Answers above :)

I will be posting a new thread as soon as they come in. They are due to arrive on Thursday. I would llike for them to get a good meal in before going through the stressors of shipping. Keep your eyes peeled for a *brand new* sale thread! :D

Drooling over the cyps..... wow what an awesome looking school.

This is a great thread and you have me sold on adding these on my 90 gallon tall tang setup as well. Rachel, here comes another order :D

LOL, I'm feeling the urge too Dr Vader :D

Thanks for the kudos :) My importer has some more wild caughts from the same group that mine came from (PM me if you would like me to put you in contact with him). I also have about 15 fry from my group that will be shipable in about a month.

Thanks,
Russ

Will you be posting on this board? I'd be willing to preorder if you were OK with that.

Thanks,
Russ
