Zebra Pleco - L046

also, keep in mind many are still collected from the wild, and by buying one you are just taking one more from it's native habitat, and that will bring them a little closer to the edge of extinction. if you must buy them, i urge you to make absolutely sure they are 100% certified tank raised.

That would actually be incorrect, zebras are not available from the wild at this point. Brazil has imposed a total ban on all exports of them and there is a huge fine and jail time attached to anyone trying to get around that law. 100% tank raised is basically your only option, to then grow out and attempt to spawn yourself. I know that I personally give preference to people that are looking to breed them when I sell fry. I don't usually sell just one or two to anyone. I want to be sure that anyone buying zebras intends to perpetuate the species, not just keep them as display animals. At this point in time, I honestly feel that should be the prime driving force for anyone that keeps these fish, or they should be placed with someone that will.

The owner of your LFS? ;) I used to live in Anchorage. Then again, maybe she was opening a new shop. The Reef used to be House of Critters, right? If so, find her new shop!
