Hello everyone!

I have a well planted 90 G with loads of hiding spots. I would love to get this zebra pleco that I found for a really good price at my lfs - Does anyone know if a Zebra L46 wil eat my plants (I don't mind a bit of nipping but don't want a bulldozzer Pleco) or my colony of Gohst Shrimp? Also- are there any look alikes that are not actual L46?

Thanx a bunch!!!

They are mainly carnivorous, and may chase a smaller shrimp.

Some that are pretty similar...and if you found one at an LFS, and especially if it is less than $200, you can bet it is not a real L46.

bristlenoses, clowns (panaque maccus) if you have wood in there, some species of rubberlip stay under 4 inches but can be aggressive towards other fish, gold nuggets grow slowly and look very nice. . . . . go to planetcatfish.com and search through their files.

the smaller peckoltia (leopard frogs, etc.) are nice in a community tank. Otos are great, and so are bristlenoses. Any catfish will be hard on a planted tank, though.

I have a gold nugget (L18), L204, and L66 in my planted tank and all are fine. I dont have shrimp, though, but I bet the 66 would eat them if I did. The zebra would be fine, I bet, but might eat some shrimp. I'd rather have a zebra than shrimp any day, though!

L173 looks like L46, but the lines are wavy. Otherwise, there really isn't anything that looks very close. If it's a real zebra, you'll know based on the straigtht lines and black and white color. L270 can look close, but it's more brown and the lines aren't as straight. Same with some other hypancistrus.
