Who sells them? I never see them for sale and think they are awesome also how about a Scarlet pleco these and Gold nugget are my 3 favorite plecos.

My local fish store had a red tail lyre pleco for $50 is that a good price? its a nice looking pleco also

scarlet plecos get very big(18"), so they aren't recommended for the average person. They are also aggresive and need to be house with proper tankmates.

As for goldnuggets they go for about 30-50$can for one up here.

Zebras are my favorite also and cost about 50-100$can depending on the time of year(and store). They also need calmer tankmates(if you choose to keep them with other fish) as they can't compete for food.

When you start gettign into fancy plecos its starts getting tricky, first they cost lots and are usually wild caught so they most ikely carry parasites. Some of them also need to be kept in the right kind of water(soft and low ph)

Zebra Pleco: They can be scarce and hard to get to feed. We've not had good luck with them. I seem to remember they don't like algae so you have to feed blanched vegies like zucchini, broccoli, etc... Am I crazy? They also can be expensive. I think the last time I saw them from our wholesaler they cost over $50.

$24 for a gold nugget is a good price. Our most common price is $29-35 USD and we only order them when we can keep the price that low. I would definitely treat both of them for parasites upon arrival. I seem to remember an article in Aquarium Fish Magazine regarding exotic plecos, maybe a year ago???

zebra plecos don't eat algae or veggies, they prefer bloodworms and other meaty foods.

Goldnuggets are also not very good algae eaters and prefer meaty foods. They might take a piece of zuchini now and then.THey also do best with some driftwood.

The scalet pleco is also a carnivore. So if you want an algae aeter these are not good choices.

I'm trying to set up a breeding colony of zebras. Currently I have 9 of them in a 30 gallon, but will soon be splitting them up into 3 20 gallon aquariums.
