Hello I am a reptile enthusiast but I have recently taken an interest in these zebra plecos ever since I saw a pic of one in a catfish book. I am rather new to aquariums and the like ( the closest thing I have kept to a fish is a tadpole and a baby bluegill I caught) The thing is that later next year I was planning to purchase a pair of zebra plecos for a 20 gallon aquarium with a bunch of plants and stuff. The thing is I am 15 and I am living at home, so my mom will be able to help me. (she kept a miriad of fish in a 40 gallon for a long tim till it got a crack) So I think that this would be something good what do you experienced aquarium people think.

Should be OK. Just remember that the zebras are carnivores and not good algea eaters. Read the cycle sticky, and do a fishless. Pleco's like good water quality, so make sure their home is ready before you put them in. find your fish and have the LFS hold them for you, pleco's are very prone to internal parasites, and these are expensive fish. If they stay healthy for a month at the LFS then acclimate them very slowly and carefully, and you should be in good shape. Just do a lot of research and take your time.

Expect to pay around $250 for a pair of them.

Where are you from, these are expensive fish, but can be purchased for less than $50.00 when in stock in Columbus Ohio.

I was just curios :) It amazes me sometimes what differences in prices are around the country. An adult Zebra will go for close to $100 here in Columbus, but juvies are usually 39.99 or 49.99, black adonis and king tigers go for the same. Royals are usually a bit more which I don't quite understand because the royals are far more available. Either way they wouldn't be highly reccomended for a betginner, but I certainly understand the desire to own one.
