I was curious because this thought just recently occurred to me, not sure why but it did.

Most of you keep fish(gee duh of course). But how many of you go fishing? Personally I've always fished and still do even though I have 3 tanks full of great aquatic life and don't feel 'bad' about fishing in the ocean, river, etc.

So how about you?

I used to fish for tilapias and clarias. I no longer do that for lack of time.

i feel the same way, i live near daytona beach, Florida. So there is fresh/salt/brackish all around. I always wanted to go catch some and make a tank of them. Like some stonefish, garr, (and i wish i had a big enough tank for some of the things i caught i.e. shovelhead shark, redfish, catfish) i might do a blue crab invert tank. I really want a sheepsheads tank

I really want a sheepsheads tank

:rofl:hahahaha, sheepshead. My brother caught some of those to take home and eat, my family had no clue what type of fish they were so we just called them 'dorkfish'. We were kind of scared to eat them because they almost looked human in the face... creepy teeth and all that.

And yes, I really like to fish. Ive been meaning to do it for a while now, but I havent had that much time. Mostly catch stupid eels from the docks, sometimes baby sharks, flounder, more eel, little baitfish, MORE EEL. Around my pond all I get is sunfish and bluegill.

I grew up and still live in south Florida . When I was younger that was all I did in my spare time , Now I don't get to do it at all . Although I did go out and catch some Mayan Cichlids, couple tilapias and bluegill a while back. I really miss going out on our old 26 footer on the Ocean every weekend .

Heh, guess I'm one of the rare few on this forum. NOPE - DON'T FISH. Can't fish, actually. Oh, I'll eat some fried catfish at a restaurant or eat tuna.. but I just can't participate in the actual death of the fish. But we're talking about someone who goes out of their way not to kill even ants and rescues everything in sight thats in danger. I have nothing against eating fish - I guess I'd just rather eat the fish bred for the purpose of being food than take something out of wild populations... fish I don't have to kill myself. We're just not in a place anymore where we have to fish to catch our food. I'm not judging anyone who does, I just don't have it in me.

I fished when I was a kid. We caught bluegills and catfish mostly. I remember it being fun and enjoying it, but that was before I realized what the fish experienced and I just couldn't stomach it anymore. My stepdad was big on hunting and fishing - he was also a cruel a$$hat and part of the reason I have such distaste for killing. But beyond that, is just the toll all the fishing takes on the ecology. Catch and release is all well and good, but I've read numerous times that a very large percentage of those fish that are caught and released die very shortly afterward due to injuries/stress.

Each to his own. We're all here cause we enjoy fish!

I love fishing, always have since I was little. All kinds - spin fishing, bait fishing, fly fishing, fw or sw. I do mostly catch and release but have kept and eaten what I've caught a few times.

I have so many memories of when I was a little girl and I pole fished at one of our ponds, It was fun. Really all I do now is trot line with my father and husband, it is fun to until dad starts driving, LOL. He likes to see who is holding on. I have removed a baby sturgeon from one of our trot lines. It was great, I had never seen one before, Something inside of me said take it home and then something else told me "dummy it is going to get big just look at it". Sure enough when research was done I thought boy I am glad that I released it. Also found out that they are endangered in our river. Made me feel good that I found a baby, so that means somebody is trying to save the specie. LOL. I guess I am stuck to the survival of the fittest motto, so fishing don't really bother me, and then I come home and look at my tanks. Hahaha.

I probably could not catch a fish if I were starving to death! We have a pond where I live, everyone catches a ton in seconds. I catch nothing. Suits me just fine as I am really just doing it to hang out. I usually manage to catch a buzz though!

I fish. Mainly freshwater catch and release though. Not that I won't hang onto a few good bluegill if someone's private pond is a bit overstocked though. Darn things breed like mollies in the wild.

I fish all the time! i love it. i catch and release except if i want a snack at the park, i'll keep about 4 good sized blue gills and grill em, yummy.

largest fish i caught (length) was a 40 inch northern Pike. fought with it for 45 minutes....thing was a beast! heaviest was a 7 pound largemouth bass. yes i said 7 LB LARGEMOUTH BASS!!!!! thats the largest bast ive ever caught, and he was mighty tastey to boot lol.

next time i go fishin i'll get my camera and get some shots. whether the fish are keepers or minnows hahaha.

Wata makes me go! She forces me to go fishing and dragged me out for a day on the lake a few weeks back. Catch and release, after crimping the barbs off the hooks. Yeah, it makes it a lot harder to catch fish, but there's less damage/stress. Now I just have to get Wataugachicken to try fly fishing out...

Love to trout fish- start in March and don't give up til it snows. I keep some - great on the grill but most I release carefully. Considered using the defective juvie angels from by breeding pair as bait (before anyone yells- no I didn't and 2- PopPopfish told me to cull the ones that have defects or were not growing as fast as the others- would weaken the stock if they bred).

Hey JRR make it a threesome! Fish the Salmon river for big cats and carp if you like catch and release. Or come down here and fish off the beach for some Striper and bluefish. Bantam Lake = bass, Candlewood = trout, Ct River for bass, cat, carp, sunnies, etc.

I fish, but not often enough. If only there were a few extra days in the week...

I've been trying to get my granny to teach me how she cooks fish. When I cook them they're edible, but when she cooks them they're incredible.

I LOVE fishing. We fish down by the river. . . It's not really the outdoor nature type of spot, but it's close, and we get to relax. lol. . .

We catch a bunch of stuff too, surprisingly. Some eels and catfish (which we hate) but some fun stuff like sturgeon, carp, drums...

I def. weant to go fishing on the ocean one day though . . .

(that being said, I'm jealous of all you guys that live near an ocean!!!! )

I understand your rights to fish all you want ,but at the time and money you spend on caring for your aquatic life at home, I find it truly Bizarre and totally contradictory that you would want to torture the same aquatic life for a few hours and run back home to nurse a fish from some tragic disease.:werd:

Well anyways I fish almost everyday always catch and release (I wouldnt trust most of the water quality around here to eat anything) ever since I got the canoe I have been fishing even more sometimes I just go out and look at the fish swimming around if I can find a clear enough lake or pond heard of some northern pike in the mattabassett river last weekend going there this weekend to try and find one
