the funny thing is, some people spend hundreds or even thousands on fishing rods, lures, and electrinic equpment and catch NOTHING.

hehe My sister and I were letting our kids fish in a private lake with pocket fisherman her daughter got bored and handed it to her and she was also bored and had it tossed out into a small little channel coming off the lake. Her line started moving so she tried to real it in and it wouldn't real and she could tell there was something on there because it was moving, she yelled and started running up the hill and drug a 11 pound catfish up on the bank lol. There wasn't even anything on the hook.

If you use the drag correctly its not really that hard to bring a big fish in on low lbs test or with a small rod. Rods only break when you apply to much pressure on them such as if he tried to lift that fish with the rod seen that happen a few times with big fish. The catfish was most likely lazy though I mean summer in North Carolina, probably a little mud hole where the cats are stocked. Fished a few of those when I visited my brother down south and it wasnt really hard to bring fish in they had no where to take off too if they wanted too in small ponds. If that had been in a fast flowing river where channel cats belong it wouldve spooled him or probably snapped the rod. Channel cats fight hard and are a blast to catch in the rivers where I live.

To use the drag correctly you need a decent amount of line. How much line would a Barbie rod spool hold? Then again, she could always use her hair. It should be 20lb test nylon.

that line would have had a pretty small diameter. it probably would have easily held 100 yards. that and they did say pond, so, like bliss said, it would have been lazy and stupid. which makes me wonder why it would be a record if it were caught in a stocked pond, i never even count fish i catch in a pond, lol

________
I don't. I have caught good size cats that just didn't fight much at all. i have also caught some that i thought were going to break my rod.
What I find hard to believe is grandpa taking that catch from his grand daughter just b/c she was in the b/r. :grinno:

"The Pocket Fisherman was invented in 1963 by Ron's father after he was nearly injured by the tip of a fishing pole.

They sould make kiddy poles with a dynamite launcher, I figure you could haul a fish in easier once it's knocked out. Call it the 'Boomstick' edition (For Redneck use only)

Well, we've got a G.I. Joe fishing getup. Maybe we'll hit some local ponds and give them a go.
