Do you actually believe in the story behind the irregular spelling of "pl*co" that if you spell it correctly your pleco will soon die.

Kinda like walking under a ladder, stepping on a crack or any other myth or urban legend.

Maybe it helps if the plecos always die on you.

With all our genuine superstitions to pick from, why does this cutsey c*nfection have such a long w*blife?

ahhhh but how do you pronounce the word pleco?

I guess that depends in turn on whether you say "PLEEK-uh-STO-mus" or --more correctly-- "Ple-COS-tuh-mus." From that you get either "Pleeko" or --more correctly-- "Plecko."

This is the same thing as those whom believe that if you have "Organ Donor" placed on your license you will die soon and become one. Hey let's see if we can pass a fish rumor and see how long it takes before someone thinks it's stupid too.

I always typed out pleco, instead of pl*co and my pleco died! Of course he was about 4-5 years old at the time. :)

If you say pleco, but you don't have a pleco...will someone else's pleco die?

I typed out pleco once on this site and it changed to pl*co before my very own eyes. Even my comp knows this urban legend. Or was it the ghost of a moderator?

When I was in college, purely to gall the ugly United Fruit Company, (The expression "Banana Republic" used to have a negative connotation, children...) we decided to spread a rumor that if you dried the strings inside banana peels and smoked them, you'd get high. That would have been early December, 1965. We all talked it up over the Christmas holidays. It took about three months for the rumor to get back to me...

These things can be done...

Ah, so that's where that rumor came from! :D

Pronouncing "pleco" is not the problem. How they heck does one pronounce "pl*co"? Is it plstarco or plasterisko?

I though people spelled it like that so when one did a search, it would not pick up the word just in a list, only threads about plecs

Some days I'm not superstitious and some days I don't even think about it. MY pleco is doing fine and has been for quite a while. However I don't even notice anymore when people talk about their pl*co's. so I can't say it bothers me much.

I think you have to Say "Superpleco" three times while spinning in circles to get that to happen.

I think superstitions are silly, but if it makes someone feel better to say pl*co it's fine with me. The only thing that drives me nuts is when people call them 'pelcos' :D
