The rules for those of you who have never played you have to guess the submission before you can post yours and you have to give two lines of the song, you need song title and artist to win to post the next....................

Here goes:

No you just have good taste in music. Wm. Hung is the guy who was so BAD when auditioning for American Idol that he became famous.... you might have heard his rendition of "She Bangs" (originally by Ricky Martin I think) followed by gales of laughter. If you haven't heard it/seen it, you definately should..... it will make you feel a lot better about dancing in public.:p It is probably on the internet somewhere..... everything else is...

For those who may be interested, the lyrics I posted were from the title track to Common Ground from the Paul Winter Consort. A group with four Grammy's and a number of nominations. Paul Winter has played in such obscure and unknown places as The White House, The United Nations and the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. So I'm probably not the only human being familiar with his work. :p ;)

Philbe's lyrics are from Tusk by Fleetwood Mac.

Thin Lizzy was not, nor ever will be, 'well known' :P
Cowboy Song, incedentally...

Lets see... lets pick what should've been my wedding song...

Love of my life

Undyling love is what I have
A handful of words
That might make you laugh

Sensei_the_dojo

Ok. Maybe Thin Lizzy will never be the household name that Frozen Ghost is,    but while you were still trotting around in diapers they had a pretty big hit with "The Boys Are Back In Town". How many "Irish" rock groups had bigger hits before U2 came around? ;)

Your lyrics are from "Dream Come True"

That one's perhaps a bit obscure. Here are some hints. It's on a solo album from a member of a band in one of my earlier posts.
The album is named for a track that appears both on the solo album and on the group's seventh (or should I say VIIth) album, but the lyrics I posted are from a song that only appears on the solo album.

If nobody figures it out, I'll post something easier tomorrow.

Sensei_the_dojo

Sorry guys. I guess that one was pretty tough. The lines are from the song "Temporary Jones" by Robert Lamm. It's on his "Skinny Boy" solo album, and "Skinny Boy" is on the Chicago VII album.

Here's one that should be pretty easy, especially since you Canadian fellows seem to be the only ones playing lately.

All the world's indeed a stage
And we are merely players
Performers and portrayers
Each another's audience
Outside the gilded cage

I love the movie. VH1 has been running it like wild lately. I saw it back in the day and loved it then. So many things rang true from that movie. Striving to emulate a "hero" until you realize one day that your voice had never been heard. For me that was 11th grade when I wrote a song for my girlfriend at the time. She helped me realize I had a song to sing of my own.. From that day, I haven't sat down with a guitar magazine and intentionally learned a song note for note. If I can't say it in my own voice, it ain't worth saying.

No idea on your lyrics, but they are quite nice.. Gonna Google it for my own sanity's sake...................

ahh, gotcha.. Thought I recognized the genre at least.

I feel ya on the hair metal.. I grew up when big hair and screaming guitars meant exciting Friday nights and groggy Saturday mornings. I think my all time fave hair band has to be Dokken for the pure musicianship of George Lynch. He made "hair metal" a respectable form of music instead of just a comic book. He was one of the voices I tried to emulate back in the day. There can be only one George Lynch though ;)

Clues. About 1/2 of this artist's concerts were fundraisers to fight world hunger. He died in a car accident in 1981, but the cause of death was a massive heart attack. Although the artist's music would be classified as folk, one of his best known tunes has been covered by Guns'n'Roses and Ugly Kid Joe.

Children of the Sun - Billy Thorpe

Twenty-five years ago they spoke out and they broke out
Of recession and oppression and together they toked
And they folked out with guitars around a bonfire
Just singin' and clappin' man what the hell happened...

but they caught him and the brought him back
and laid him down

Seven Curses - Bob Dylan

as long as were stealing things . . .

His rival it seems had broken his dreams
By stealing the girl of his fancy.
Her name was Magil and she called herself Lil
But everyone knew her as Nancy.

Hey, that's Rocky Racoon by the Beatles. I didn't know this, but my NASCAR-loving secretary did (how's that for a disconnect). She also helped me out with this one...

Go ahead and hate your neighbor
Go ahead and cheat a friend
Do it in the name of Heaven
You can justify it in the end

Carolina in my Mind - Several people have done this.... James Taylor, John Denver to name 2.....

I don't have too much time, I just hope no one's done this one yet... even me, hehehe ;) Ok, here goes:

He kept dreamin'
That someday he'd be a star.
But he sure found out the hard way
That dreams don't always come true.

Midnight Train to Georgia - Gladys Knight and the Pips

Johnny died one night, died in his bed,
Bottle of whiskey, sleeping tablets by his head.
Johnny's life passed him by like a warm summer day,
If you listen to the wind you can still hear him play.

Sidenote related to "Carolina in My Mind": My mom has catered meals at James Taylor's house. She says he's very pleasant and always gives her a big hug and peck on the cheek when she works there.

Gladys Kinght and the Pips -- Midnight Train to Georgia.

Again, by my secretary, she's really good.

"That one guitar, felt good in his hands
Didn't take long to understand
Just one guitar, slung way down low
Was a one-way ticket, one way to go"

Can't You See - Marshall Tucker Band

Some silicone sister with her manager's mister told me I got what it takes

She said I'll turn you on sonny to something strong if you play that song with the funky break

And go-cart Mozart was checkin' out the weather chart to see if it was safe to go outside

And little Early-Pearly came in by her curly-wurly and asked me if I needed a ride

Blinded By the Light - Manfred Mann (& Earth Band)

Although Manfred Mann has the better known version of Blinded by the Light, it's actually a Bruce Springsteen tune. I thought you'd have picked up on that Dangerdoll. I hope no other New Jersey folk see your post. :D

Anyway, your tune is "Just A Song Before I Go" - CSN&Y

Philbe ~ Copperhead Road, Steve Earl!! (ps, I'm psyched that I actually recognized that one... you think you know music, but it's so hard to figure out lyrics w/out the music playing!!)

Here's my lyrics... ugh, it's probably too easy... :)

It's "Luck Be a Lady" - Frankie Sinatra ;)

well the night does funny things inside a man,
these old tom cat feelings, you don't understand..
well I turn around and look at you,
you light a cigarette...
I wish I had the guts to bum one,
but we've never met....

dwayne
06-30-2004, 12:15 PM
happychem, I have the toughest time guessing these lyrics, and then as soon as someone posts the answer I usually say "D'oh! I knew that"

I'm doubly psyched that I know this one too!!
I hope I don't fall in love with you, by Hootie and the Blowfish!

There’s nothing you can know that isn’t known.
Nothing you can see that isn’t shown.
Nowhere you can be that isn’t where you’re meant to be.
It’s easy.
