What's a Poo Spit?
A Poo Spit is when a fish mistakes a Poo for food. Then spits it out.
Does a fish who sees another fish Poo Spit, but then... eats the Poo himself think... Maybe he (the 1st Fish) is just not very hungry? Or... is that fish just less intelligent than the 1st fish? Hmmmmm.... and.... AND I guess the reverse would be true as well yes? ... you know... the fish who sees the Poo but ignores it even though he/she hasn't actually tried tasting it yet. That genius of a fish knows a Poo when HE sees one!
Ever count the number of Poo Spits on a particular Poo? 15 Fish in the tank right? EVERYBODY has to test that one Poo at least once. Heck... It might be food right? Hmph! I watched this one Poo for about 10 minutes and it has gotten at least 10 Spits! Count em... 10!!! I guess I should be proud to be the owner of a 10'er... if there were contests for such a thing. Maybe I'll have it framed... Oops too late... someone broke it in two. Oh well, they'll be another one soon.... Im sure.

hans--check the date on the original post. i'm not sure why someone saw fit to find this post in the annals of AC and reply to it so long after it died. you weren't around for luca, were you? he was a good buddy of some of the mods...

Yeah, I replied to this old posting. I was actually reading the archives to answer my question before I asked the question. A lot of people yell "search the archives". :-)
And when you search the archives you sometimes find these obscure postings that really need to see the light of day.

whats the intelligence of the poo eater that doesnt spit? i had an oscar that favored puffer droppings.
had to trade him as he was about to become part of his favorite meal.
I did a quick search for the legend of the killer neon tetras, but alas, I think that was a previous version of the forums. I could not find it.
I was so looking forward to rereading it too.

their are alot of SW poo eaters not sure about FW but they are interesting to watch keep an eye out for them at LFS;)

mmmm poo. I'e noticed the samething, but I didn't really know how to phrase the question. I notice it with my krib fry, one eats, spits, then it goes through the whole cycle untill it's done then the parents try it, it;s really weird

On a serious note, white colored fish poo (feces) can mean a real big bacteria problem. This mainly pertains to larger fish... HTH

I have watched this activity by my fish and find it very interesting who tries it and who does not. Good Grief, my fish will try a taste even AFTER a huge meal! You would think they were starving to death!

That seems to be the case, at least until you are banned a couple of times and they block you (I don't know how this works, so don't ask me :confused: ;) )
Now back on the questionable topic.... I do feed my fish, but I only have neons, 2 small otos, 1 SAE, and an upside down cat that hides all the time. Maybe it's too small for me to see? I do also vacuum the gravel (but not around my plants) whenever I do a water change and I get a little crud, but not much...:confused: I guess they are all fine.... they have all been in there for 2 months to a year and a half.... I'd think if they weren't making poo, they'd already be dead....

To answer a few questions for the morbidly curious--there are different levels of banning. Initially, it's based on user name, and people can and do sign up under a new name. Most are quickly and easily identified as the previous offender. If they quit behaving unacceptably, they are welcomed back. If they fail to revise their behavior, they can be banned based on their computer signature. We try to give people notification that they are crossing the line before banning initially, and would prefer not to resort to this. For some people, it's unfortunately needed.
