hey, all. i've decided to get my mother some fish for her birthday (they'll going into my tank, BTW.) which is this saturday, and I was wondering what to get her. from what she has kept before and told me, she likes cute little schooling fish like tetras and rasboras and such. so, what should I get her, and how many of reccomended fish? please don't all say neons, use your imagination!

I second the vote for the rummynoses. I just put a small school of them in one of my aquariums and they are beautiful. They school nicely and look nice swimming through all of the live plants. I also have some glo-lites in another aquarium that are also nice but I think I like the rummynoses better. Another option are rasboras. They tend to be tight schoolers and are just too cute. I am referring to the harlequin rasborsas. The brilliant rasboras are also tight schoolers and when the light shines on them they seem irridessent.

Hope this helps.

Esp if you've got soft acid water, those lemon tetras really glow. Glow-lites can really look spectacular in a large group when they're happy. If it's an established tank with dark gravel and background, blue tetras can look pretty nice. They look like crap in the store, though!

Checkerboard barbs in a group can be great, just make sure they won't grow too big for your other fish.

Wait a minute. Is it your mother who took such crappy care of your fish and didn't follow your directions and you got so angry this summer??? Will she take care of these fish? If it was someone else's mom, I apologize. :)

i picked up some black neons recently..different from std neons.
