Is the red line where the normally whitish line coloration would be? Running the length of the fish starting at the tail and coming to about the end of where its guts are visible from the outside? If so, check the fish for small (about half the size of a pinhead), black spots around the back of the gills, or anywhere else on his body. If you see any, then the tang has black Ich. I had a Yellow tang develop this and die. He showed similar symptoms to what you describe.
Oriongirl says that she has treated this by lowering the specific gravity in the tank to around 1.020, and with FW baths. I have found that No-Ich Marine works very well, and it's reef safe.
Of course, your tang could have something completely different. Is it showing any other symptoms like flashing, labored breathing, or holding his fins close in to his body? Also, are you providing the tang with enough vitamin C?

Actually I think Kreblak's post was a very descent post. Otherwise it may be lateral line erosion, which tangs are prone to get. The cause of it is general unknown, though it is believed to be something along the lines of poor water quality and/or a lack of spiriluna in the diet, which tangs need a heavy amount of. What's your water parameters and feeding schedule? Sorry your tang didn't make it Kreblak.

Thanks for living up to your name, nopatience. We cannot fully diagnose the condition without as much information as that for which we are asking.
If you could show us a picture, that would be great and helpful, but would you please give us a chance???

Well, then, I am sorry that you feel that way, but perhaps you could share your vast information with others who apparently need help more than you do?

LOL. "Know less than I do"? C'mon buddy. I'll take you out to school any day of the week on any subject you could think of. You've come in here now a few times acting likey you're hot**** and disregarding people's advice. Hey guess what...if you don't want to take the advice then don't post a question! You're getting nothing but honest advice from people trying to help. Unbelievable. This is my last post on anything that has to do with nopatience. Good riddance.

I think that that might take the illogical one out of those four, as (s)he seems to reply a lot!

Why is your SG so low? You should be up around 1.025 or so. Do you have a quarantine/hospital tank that can house the tang for treatment?

As you can see from the prior post, we do know what we are talking about, and water parameters are important. Now maybe you will reconsider your earlier comments, nopatience?

Wow, you miss a few hours and look what happens. Anyway, if I may, I will try to get back to the original topic of the sick tang. Nopatience, you never told us SPECIFICALLY what behavior the tang was showing. "Swimming crazy" could mean 500 different things. I have a domino damsel that swims upside down on occasion, and has for 6 months. He is fine healthwise, he just seems to enjoy it. Does that constitute "crazy?"
Also, you didn't tell us whether or not you have been supplumenting the tang's diet with vitamin C enriched foods. If you haven't, then VoodooChild's post about lateral line erosion may have been dead on.
GCVT also has a very good point about the SG in your tank. I have yet to find a source recommending less than 1.022.
Now, if you feel that our advice is worthless, may I suggest that you visit your public library and do some reading. There are a lot of books written by a lot of PhD's out there that know more than we do, and they MIGHT even know more than you.

Nopatience, Bob Fenner at WWM will tell you to pack off if you cop this kind of attitude with them - even extremely talented and experienced aquarists get stumped sometimes, and you shouldn't be that judgmental. He also won't be able to do a thing for your tang if you choose not to answer the relevant questions. We can't see your fish and we don't know your tank, so there's a lot of missing information that needs to be filled in before anyone can make a diagnosis. Red streaks and odd behavior can be anything from petecchial (which would be my guess) to black spot to swim bladder damage...we need more info, and I'll bet you a beer that specific water parameters are the FIRST thing that Fenner's crew asks for if you don't supply them in your question. Nine times out of ten, it's a water quality issue that results in a fish getting stressed enough to come down with a disease/infection in the first place.
I'm leaving this thread open to allow further discussion, but posts made with personal attacks will be edited at my discretion and I won't hesitate to close this down if it gets out of hand.
