    35G Hex Planted : Journal

Hey, best of luck getting re-started. I just wanted to comment that most Wal-Mart's don't carry the test kit normally. Most people order it via site-to-store (it's free) and then pick it up at the store. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Freshwater-Master-Test-Kit-Fish-Aquatic-Pets/3635493

Getting the 240 gallon up and running

My jealousy meter is officially broken. Drooooool. Anyway, on to questions/comments/suggestions: How are the africans doing with the plants so far? Generally africans are plant eaters... which brings me to my next comment... How are the africans/SAs mixing so far? Once again, generally, they...

    36 Gallon Asian Aquarium

Short answer: No, but because of your lighting, not your fish load. Long answer: Your plants WILL benefit from CO2 injection but unless you start having massive algae then you don't need to bother with it.

    Stubborn Flashing - Gill Flukes?

Thank you for helping GuppyGirl. The tank is a 30 gallon, planted semi-densely with rocks and driftwood as well. There are 11 gold barbs in there, the only fish put in since I finished cycling (pure ammonia). They were fine for about 2 weeks and then the flashing just sort of crept up :( That...

    Stubborn Flashing - Gill Flukes?

I don't think water changes are the problem, as I just finished changing the water every day for 2 weeks. The fish do not seem to act any different before or after the change. Thank you for replying though.

Bump. My fish are in pain and I do not know how to help them. Please help me. It is hard to enjoy my aquarium when my fish are clearly not well.

    Stubborn Flashing - Gill Flukes?

Hello, I have been battling disease in my display tank. The fish are flashing. The first time I noticed this, I did a bunch of research and decided to treat my tank with Praziquantel. I used Praz-Tastic, a pure Praziquantel powder. The flashing totally stopped. I had to go out of town so I...

    whats your favorite fish?

For the past year or so I've been hypnotized by the movements of Bolivian Rams... they look so peaceful yet wild in a tank... so maybe those. Although in an unlimited size tank... I just couldn't say what my favorite fish is.

Golden Barb behaviour - aggression or just playing?

I agree with Tanker - never seen any damage to the little guys and gals, just displaying.

Golden Barb behaviour - aggression or just playing?

I agree, I have a school of 11 Gold Barbs in my tank and they display the exact same behavior. This is a dominance display, it didn't start until they got to a certain age. As long as you have enough Gold Barbs and hiding places, they will be fine. Gold Barbs are even tough enough to get along...

I'll give you $200 for it ;) Congrats on the purchase though, I can't wait until I make the jump and get a big tank.

Another CL incorrect and too much I offered $1 a gallon

Sorry to go a little off topic but I'm in California too, and where are homes abandoned and gutted?

    Color of fish

Taking proper care... That means clean water, varied diet, proper size and decoration of tank for the species. Most fish do appear more colorful against a dark substrate, others like Discus get their most colorful in completely bare tanks... I would say the vast majority look better against a...

New invert tank, load of questions.

You can use veggie food with calcium on kensfish for your inverts. No messing with water chemistry.

    Quick question about cycling

Keeping the lights off will help reduce algae forming during the cycling phase... but it's not important

Interesting idea, natural environment idea, NEED EXPERTS

Well of course... I'm just saying, in nature, nobody sticks in a gravel vac, sucks out half the water, and dumps new water in. So in a sense naturalism in your tank is a slippery slope... if you want to go 100% au naturale then you might as well just dig up a portion of the Amazon and plop...

    Haha ;) Right but that's more of a top-off than a change!

Interesting idea, natural environment idea, NEED EXPERTS

I've discussed this a few times and I agree... I mean in some circumstances in SW, fish like the Mandarin Goby live solely on the copepods that naturally reproduce in the aquarium. However there are many failures of this same strategy and it really is a guessing game to some extent... The...
