    Pics of my new tank...

hmm.. that is interesting, given that you don't have any stony corals with high calcium demand. Best way to stabilize calcium is to use calcium reactor, but given that the tank is relatively small, I don't think it's a must. I would recommend a two part addition supplement.

    Salinity Fluctuations

1.022 is slightly low and 1.026 is slightly high, although you could get away with either one. The problem is the fluctuation. I'm guessing the salinity increases slowly through evaporation and suddenly drops when you do water change to bring it down. This can be pretty stressful for the fish...

    Why do tangs mimic angels?

:dance2: Never knew that but totally makes sense!

    We've Got Fish!!!!

Looking great! I really like algae blennies.

to moonlight or not to moonlight...

I also agree that it's purely for viewing pleasure. As matter of fact, I have seen my fish still awake and swimming around in the middle of the night because of the moonlight... whereas they would hide in the rocks and not come out in the complete darkness... I guess it's up to personal...

    plumbing question...

Also remember that the general flow rate with given bulkhead size also varies depending on the design of the overflow. For example, if you have an overflow with the hole on the bottom that falls directly into the sump, it's definitely going to have a better flow than if you were to have a hole...

    My 125 Tank Build

good idea on the little filter thing for the durso pipe. My only suggestion would be to make sure you check up on it regularly to see that it's clean. My concern would be that if it clogs up with stuff, it could potentially have the same impact as snail getting stuck in it. Great idea...

What do you do for work?

Very interesting how people with such different backgrounds gather here for a common hobby. I'm a public accountant. I work in assurance and business advisory services... which is a fancy name for an "Auditor". Sorry. No full tank shot. Boring accoutants don't have digital cameras. Here...

Best place to buy marine fish online?

I bought from marinedepotlive. They made a mistake and sent more fish than I ordered.. which I can't complain about! Now I just don't know what to do with the extra fish. But more importantly, the anthias I bought arrived very fat and eating well. This was my first purchase online and I...

Anyone keep different species of anthias in the same tank?

So here is the update! Rather than going with the female redbelts, I gave my male redbelt to a friend and decided to startup a whole new crew. (NO CPD, I did not get the recommended 8 females :) ) I tried to decide between lyretails and bartlett. After going back and forth and...

    metal halides???

I think 250 will be okay... It makes me very jealous that you're contemplating between 250 and 400 though :) I have 3 x 150 and my tank is 24 inches deep. I keep all my acros in upper half of the tank (more like the top 1/3 of the tank for the most part) and have had pretty good growth. I...

    2 T5s or 4 T5s on 55 gallon tank?

All I know.. from my experience.. is that current USA and Coralife are relatively affordable compared to those european high rollers and are surprisingly reliable and effective... I have a sunpod made by current USA. it's a different tpe of fixture, but I'm very happy with the quality... Can't...

My new toadstool doesn't look too hot...

Yeah.. they're pretty ugly and make the tank look so bare when they're shedding... Mine does that for few days at a time every few months. I think it will come back soon.

Everyone post Pics of your Tank Here

Nice tank, RP. I read in your other post that you just purchased those leathers.. is that right? How are they opening up now?

    lights

awesome! keep up the water change. They should completely go away in no time.
  16. Dustin83

    light requirements.

:iagree: Exactly what i was going to say :) As far as the light requirement goes... by fluorescent, i assume you're talking about standard T12 bulbs? like those ones used in household? That will not be enough to keep any corals. If you're willing to look to the future and wish to...

    Filtration Question

Hmmm... whenever someone has algae problem, first thing I question is the water source, like Grins says. Not sure what kind of water you're using, but using Ro/Di may help (I apologize if you are using it already). Other than that, only other suggestion would be to do frequent water change...

    Relocating Tank question

Just be careful not to have too much weight (i.e. LR and Water) left in the tank when you (and likely few others) lift it.. it could cause the bottom to crack if it's not thick enough... in that regard, it might be better to maybe quickly lift the corners of the stand with the tank on it, put...

    Soo's 1st reef 90G build

No need to be concerned about the leathers if it has been only few days. I bet it has opened up even more by now. Keep the toadstool in a medium to high flow.. which seems to be the case already. Great looking setup. I like the rockscaping. What is the microbubble maker? Is it a return...
