VERY GOOD SUCCESS WITH IT. Except it died when I upgraded my lighting. Bamboo grows best in shade or indoors w/o lights so same applies when kept under water. Only that "lucky bamboo" seems to last long fully sugmerged. You can also get other types of bamboo that stick out of the water.

fully submerged they will rot, i had a really cool bamboo "forest" in my tank, looked great for about three or four months and then crash!
Except me and the guy you quoted both have had success growing bamboo fully submerged. Bamboo needs to be sticking out the water to get CO2 but it will not die without a CO2 system.

I've put bamboo fully underwater and had it rot... but the **** they sell at petco survives man... trust us...
