Maybe it was 4 inches when your friend put it into the pond last spring. Fish grow really fast in outdoor ponds, or at least that has been my experience. Hope you don't have a lot of live plants in your tank. Going to need a lot of algae wafers.

Nice pleco.....for the winter, I don't see a problem with a 55. Wonder what their plans are though for next winter...?

so that pleco just came out of the pond now? how low of a temp can common/sailfins handle?

i know fancier varietys are strickly tropical but i hear the above two are able to handle low 60's...can they go lower?
My mother-in law has common sailfins in an outdoor pond, during the winter, but this is in southern california and the lowest temps are 60F.
