the line may eventually disappear, too. CAE's are variable in color and yours is very young yet. I've raised true and false SAE's from about 3/4" and they never had spotting like your fish. They also never looked like your fish. You have a chinese algae eater. what did you buy it as?

Now that I see those other pics, you have a very confusing fish! lol

It has the head of a CAE but I have never seen a false SAE with such smooth striping. Some of the coloring looks closer to a false SAE, so idk...

I wonder if it is possible it could be a hybrid? I doubt it but you never know.

One thing is for certain though, that sure as heck aint an oto!
