Not specifically. You can always create a separate thread or even write your own article based on the research. Or just post the links here I guess ;)

Whatever ya do I want to see them :D
I guess I'll post what I've got so far here. When the tank is complete, I'll probably do something more formal for sourcing its research, and a big dump at the end of related material.

Nyanza project (as mentioned several times before) has been GREAT. The project's site doesn't link directly to all of this research though, so I'm not sure if they want every bit of it available. Either way, I believe information like this needs to be free to those interested in helping the lake out:

http://www.google.com/search?q=inurl:%22www.geo.arizona.edu/nyanza%22&hl=en&filter=0

Just toss in what ever you want info on after the original search string if you want to get more specific.

Here's the project home: www.geo.arizona.edu/nyanza

This one is a nice little article for a lake TK plant list, I'm slowly verifying it through wikipedia, discoverlife.org, and some other misc. resources:

An old journal from 1907 with some plant species and other info:

Some bits on nitrogen chemistry and polution in northern lake TK:

An article with a nice little map that I reffer to some times:

Some of "Lake Tanganyikan Cichlids" by Mark Smith:

A study on some of the bacteria of lake TK:

Littoral fish in the NE of lake TK:

And I've got plenty more hiding in a pile of *.txt documents, along with quotes etc. I've got some info sorting to do eventually.

*edit* The Bleher link may not have come up with a lake TK biotope, but it's going right in my bookmarks for future use. THANK YOU for posting it :D

From what pics I can find of the shoreline and creakbeds at least, there apears to be very little rock there. You might be most closely copying the area by simply using wood and plants from the region. Sorry I could not be more help.

wow i can not find my book i have an old tanganyika book from dr axelrod back in the 70's i believe and had some wonderful diving photos with julido's in it and a whole lot more of different species but i havent seen it in some time i will try to look for it but from what i can remember is that the look was of a rocky boulder type no sand around just all gray looking boulders, i completely understand what you are saying and why your doing it so have some fun my friend as for me i would do a tank full of limestone rocks, bottom to top and buy one of those 3D backgrounds for the bottom of the tank and sides also the back it would be one 10gal big rock setup..

However, that's quite the opposite of where the julidochromis species inhabit...they don't live very close to the shores, anywhere from 3-20 meters down where the rocks begin to slope off to the bottom.

Philosophus: one thing I just noticed is that a couple of sites attribute the julidochromis transcriptus to the northwest side of Lake Tanganyika...maybe that's where the problem is?

Here are the two links, which are both pretty reputable sites IME:

I see. I was under the impression that the shoreline could give a decent estimation of what the ground would look like under the surface as well, based on what I've seen of the waterline at most lakes I've fished having rissen and fallen as much as 20-30 feet most years and there being little significant difference in what the terrain looks like at either elevation.

What pictures of the shoreline were you looking at? Here's one along with an underwater photo. Granted this probably isn't the exact location the OP is looking for but it's a pretty good representation of the lake as a whole...
