I've never done convicts, so I can't comment specifically. I do know they breed like crazy and can become a pain in the neck because of that. My African cichlids all came to the glass to see me, as do my Bolivians (and to less extent my apistos). So if that's what you're looking for, you still have lots of options in terms of cichlids. If you're fixed on the convicts, put up a thread asking for suitable tankmates and knowledgeable folks can advise you what goes with them.
I'd personlly call up the LFS that sold you a bunch of aggressive mbuna that really shouldn't live together and ask that they take them back and get credit for them...
