So the iodine stuff is just normal human stuff?

No I don't have a test kit yet. That is on my list, just need to get the time(I know I should make time, but I am really quite busy at the moment).

This is going to sound real bad, but I honestly don't actually know anything... I am a complete noob, even though I have had my fish for 7years. I just do what I always do and it seems to have kept them alive. Despite Will getting a tumor:cry:

Yes, it's the normal human stuff. Get betadine.

When you clean your filter media, just give it a slight swish in the ol' bucket full of ol' tank water or dechlorinated tap water to remove the muck but do NOT clean it too thoroughly or you'll remove most of your beneficial bacteria. Do NOT use hot water, bleach and detergents. These will kill your beneficial bacteria responsible for keeping the ammonia and nitrite stable.
