I was surprised there was no feeling while packing it. I expected pain and lots of it and there was none! Hope yours healed right and left no pockets of infection to show up later on!
Yeah I did the same thing. Had to use sterile water on the gauze to get it nice and wet and then pack it in the opening and cover all that with more gauze and wrap it up. Instead of using shorter gauze, mine wasn't a hole but a long cut and the gauze just didn't go as deep until they could sew it closed.
