Here's two great articles on AC that are devoted to stocking suggestions for smaller tanks. I really wish I'd received information like this when I was first starting out:

I think that making a "Suggested stocking list" for different size tanks would also be a fantastic idea. Sometimes even if people know better than to try to fit an oscar in a 10 gallon, they still don't know just how many neons or whatever they *can* fit in the tank, so providing them with a list of numbers of each fish that would be appropriate would be best.

i agree with the rec omened stocking list and you should give them out when people by tanks from you and that should really help and if somebody is trying to by a fish that gets big you should see how big their tank is and if they don't have a big enough tank you should try to get them to get another type of fish

hey congrats on your new job! its great that someone who is on a fish forum, and who knows a lot about fishes is actually working at a shop! also if you come accross any problems or need any ideas, i'm sure the experienced people here will be able to help you out! i still think of the time when i read this thread on mfk about walmart (i think or petsmart - all sound the same to me) were trying to sell angel fish in cups! well hopefully stores will take in more and more people who are experienced and know how to treat fish well.

Just thought of something else. You might try to have a "Aquarium Learning Day" and have free seminars for people that may want an aquarium. Same kind of thing Lowe's has and they sell huge loads of equipment and supplies from those things.

Good Luck with the new job! It sounds like a fun and interesting challenge. Have they told you what kind of a budget you'll have to work with? That will make a difference in what kind of changes you can make.

Kudos to you for getting those poor Bettas out of those cups! :)
