look at how petluvr got their local store to stop selling livestock. Try contacting the main walmart headquarters.

Updates on Wall-E: The ich has almost cleared up! Wall-E is doing great and loves to swim around. I was doing a water change and found a 50cent-piece-sized bubble nest in his tank!!! He likes to flare at this picture of a betta I have. I think he might have poor vision...as when he lunges for food he often misses. Pics!!

Look at his pretty colors! He out-glams my female bettas, and they're little divas!

So while Aquaparadise works on the website, I wanted to do a little thinking "out loud." I'm working on some letters to send to walmart/other big chains, as well as a form letter for contacting other interested individuals. I'll post those once I get them more polished. Here is my thought process on creating a 10 betta setup:

-Idea 1 (Cheapest..i've found:)) : 10 individual 5.3 gal tanks, each with it's own small internal filter. All of them would be hooked up via airline to the same big-*** air pump.

Tanks:
http://www.bigalsonline.com/BigAlsUS...eclearvuelarge
$99.90

Filters:
http://www.jtdiscountstore.com/servl...FILTER,/Detail
$18.00+ added filter floss and sponges 25.00&7.00

Pump:
http://www.aquariumguys.com/tetra-wh...-air-pump.html
$20.00

Total: $210+/- a few for shipping
Need to factor in cost of lighting!

Idea 2, The coolest (and most expensive):
Tanks:
http://www.jmkdisplays.com/tanks.html

This guy makes sweet custom aquariums. Check out some of his stuff. He gave me an estimate for 5 custom aquariums (each super long and not too tall, divided in half (2 fish each aquarium, approx. 5 gallons each fish) for $400some dollars+huge shipping

Filters & others remain the same.
Need to factor in cost of lighting!

Idea 3 (somewhere in the middle cost wise-might be cheapest if I can get a good deal):

-get some super-huge long tanks second hand (like 75 gal) and place dividers in them so multiple bettas can be in the same tank
-filters& others remain the same
-lighting already supplied

So, what was your idea for betta housing? The "cheapest" idea I've come up is so far about $20 per betta, which is not that bad. For every idea I have so far, I still need to factor in cost of air line, t-valves & flow regulator valves, food, plants, & substrate. (And lighting where applicable, which is hella expensive) Heaters are not needed, as I already heat the entire fish room instead of the individual tanks.

Anybody have anything better?

I commend you for saving Wall-E good luck with treating him for ich :grinyes:. Also if you can add some aquarium salt to the aquarium as well as the meds for ich it will not only soothe him but will also help with curing the ich problem but I just saw that you say the ich is almost gone. I am so glad that you are writing to wallmart about the conditions they have those poor bettas in? I would have too is so sad because I have heard about this before about this store chain is really a shame that they care so little about the lives of the fish they sell. I have two bettas and whenever I hear about poor living conditions some stores subject them to it really bothers me :angryfire:. I wish I had more room for more tanks I already have two betta tanks and a 36g otherwise I would save a couple more bettas too.

Here's a possible option. It may be counter-intuitive, but true none the less. Quit buying them. Especially from large chain stores. As long as there is a demand there will be a supply. That cheap betta you find may seem like a goos deal until you realize that 4 out of 5 die in the supply chain.
