Saying goodbye to your beloved pet...

i had to have my dog of 18 years put down about 9 years ago...it was the hardest thing i ever had to do..it was like losing my child...so i feel for you..and i know how hard it is to lose her....

Deepest condolences go out to you, as it's very painful. My old mutt is getting up in age, too, with assorted health problems, so I'm bracing myself for it. Doing the best I can in the meantime and having a blast with him, though. Sounds like you did very much the same.
It's more like losing a family member and old friend to me. Fish are pets, but I don't get attached to them. We got another dog some months after Hunter, (our black lab/chow) had to be put down because Cheyenne (shepherd) still seemed depressed. She had never been the only dog, and always seemed more dog-sociable than people-sociable, just the opposite of Hunter. Now we also have Sophie (black lab/pit bull) and Cheyenne really seems much happier since she's adjusted to the new situation.
