There's a possibility that the betta will pick at them but it depends on their personality.

Will thermometers make him sick?

Are aquarium thermometers harmful?Almanzo never liked his,and would 'headbutt ' it.I was doing a water change and it was broken.I changed the water but could it make him sick?

If it was broken there is a possibility it could be leaking (I'm not an electrian so I don't know the technical term). I'd unplug it asap if that is the case.

A normally functioning heater isn't an issue though. Is a fully submersible heater? What brand/model?

Thermometer or heater? Most modern thermometers are using an alcohol based indicator, not mercury...and even the weight in them isn't lead very often. I'd suction out the debri and monitor the tank.

Lol,but no the 'thermometer' was broke.I did take out the glass and debri.I was just thinking, could the alcohol make him sick.At first, I thought the little black balls from the thermometer was eggs,or rotten pellets.Lmbo

I doubt at that concentration it would be something to worry about, but that's just my guess. If it would make you feel better a series of water changes would do the trick.
