I agree, you just need a little bit more light wattage than on a standard depth tank.

Listen kid if think this is bad there are other forums that would be calling you names and would be extremely rude.
This is the best group of people you will find on any board they are helpful kind and probably overly considerate of peoples feelings.
You being 16 its kind of your job to question everything :wall: but at some point you must realize hey, all these people can't be wrong, maybe I am wrong.

I have a 42 hex and you can do live plants you just need to get a light like the coalife 24" 65 w that fits mine and should be a close fit for yours.

i dont have them by heart i think there 19 IN. wide and 24 deep, i think.
i wish you guys would of told me in the first place that it was the O2 in my tank and not the floor space... well i guess floor space does have to do with O2

its a combo of factors the small floor space also means small surface area for gas exchange. as for plants could even get away with some of those cfl bulbs at walmart or something.
