I'm looking to setup a 20g long tank on my dresser. I was wondering if this would be too noisy? I'm not quite sure. I don't want the tank to be anywhere else... If anyone has some insight please let me know.

If you get a good filter it shouldnt be noisy at all

what constitutes as a good filter? I've had a tank a while back a 10g hex and it had a biowheel. Should I be looking at one of those? Anyone else have recommendations on a "good filter" (read quiet)

the most quiet filter would probrably be a canister (eheim brand is VERY quiet) next to that would be an aqauclear HOB.

:iagree:

Also, b/c the noise from your filter, if you think it might still be a bit too loud, concider how high you fill your water level... ;)

Either way, if the noise bothers you at first, dont worrie, you will get used to it. Any noise that you have comming from your current H.O.B. should still be very minimal. I too have a bio-wheel in my bedroom and i cant hear it.

I have an Aquaclear 30 and I can barely hear it run, but I also tend to find the constant noise of the water flowing very relaxing.

A Fluval 3+ would do the trick. It is fully submersable so can be 100% silent. I used one in a 23 gallon and it kept the water crystal clear. Just set it up to be 100% underwater.
