BLACK vs NATURAL GRAVEL/SAND photos!

I give my black gravel an 8 out of 10.

Color of my fish is tremendous.

But!
The poop is just as vibrant on the gravel as the color on the fish... : /

Thats what I thought =( oh well, thats why they made the gravel vac right! lol

since puting sand in 1 tank , i dont think i will go back to gravel , despite showing up the poop , its soooo much easier to clean and you dont get all the nasties droping between the gravel .

I put white sand in my 37g. Loved it to start with. Now, not so much. It shows everything! I use a python to clean every week, but it just can't seem to suck up all the crap. Plus with a drift wood in for my little plec....I get all these little wood pellet scrap things from him eating on the wood. I had much better success sucking debris out of gravel. Maybe I'm just not doing it right.

i found some sand at lowes that says premium play sand on it , but its not the soft stuff you normally see its made by short mountain silica , it was about $6 for 50# .

I too prefer black sand. I had white sand in a 12 gal for a while and it looked really nice for about 1-2 mos, then it just got really "dingy" even after gravel vac-ing. In my opinion, poop shows up better on the white sand. Here's a pic of the white sand in the 12gal:
