should i euthanize a betta with dropsy

That's a great link. 2 AlkaSeltzers in a 10gal sounds more ethical than freezing the fish in anything that will fit in my icebox. Hopefully I will never have to intervene on behalf of a tortured fish again, but if I do, I will go with the CO2 saturation.

what a grim thread.

So what do you do with a frozen betta?

...earl-eye in the morn-in'!

It should be pretty darn dead if it's frozen solid. Dispose of the body by your preferred method and be done with it. I've found that cereal boxes make good coffins.

Chop off its head and put a stake through its heart if you're concerned about that sort of thing.

I have to put down convict fry once in a while and what I do is put them in a 5g bucket 1/2 full and drop in 5 to 6 tablets, I didn't like the results of just 2 in the bucket, it seemed to drag on and on.

Don't think it's quite the right time for that kind of humor :( :duh:

The middle part wasn't precisely humor, although I suppose since it was sandwiched between two jokes it might be easy to read it as such. If the fish is frozen solid its dead, correct? As such it doesn't matter much what you do with the body, so just get rid of it however you want. I feel kindof bad about flushing a dead fish, so I've taken to sticking them in a cereal box and putting it down the trash shoot. Hardly a glorious burial, but it gets the job done.

i used alkaseltzer for a gourami, and it seemed to work, but i didn't really want to for the betta because i thought it might just breathe out of hte surface anyway, which i just now realize gouramis can do too...

i just heard freezing was an okay way to go and i didn't wana have him dying for 15 days

I mix clove oil in some tank water and place fish in. Within about 20 secs it goes to sleep. I then place in freezer.
