Would it be possible to put 10 Cherry Shrimp in my 10 gallon tank with 1 German Blue Ram, 3 Julii Corys, 2 Danios, and 1 tiny pleco? Or will they be a snack? I've never had shrimp so I figured I'd better ask the experts!

Upcoming questions: What type of pleco's do I have? and What kind of fish are these?

Wow, in my search to find the answer to my question I read something that I did not know! Eeeeeeeek! Is it true that my water temperature should be near 85-88 degrees for the German Blue Ram? Mine is currently not even close. It is setting at 76 as it has been since I set up the tank a year ago. If so, I better get my butt to the store and get a new heater that is adjustable. Hopefully my ram isn't freezin' his butt off in there! Also, if that IS the case (that the water needs to be warmer) are my other fish (3 Julii Corys, 2 Danios, 1 Pleco and possibly shrimp depending on you all) going to be alright in there? Ugh. More hours of research needs to be done on my part!

IMO, your tank is already a tad overstocked. From my own research and/or experiance, GBR's should have a tank minimum of 20 gallons. Depending on what type of Pleco you have, 10 gallons is way, waaaaaay too small for it. Danios are also major schooling fish and do best with ATLEAST 4 of their kind. If I were you, I would do an upgrade to atleast a 20 gallon (29 G would be more preferable) and add atleast 2 or 3 more danios with the ones you have now.

I know the danios are a schooling fish as that is what I started with a year ago-8 long fin danios from petco. Ew@petco! Over time they have died off and these are the only two that have held on. I don't really want to add more because, well, I don't want danios. Is that horrible--do I absolutely need to have more danios for them? The plect is supposedly one that does not get any larger than 4 inches. I got him from a reputable lfs that deals ONLY with fish and have been in the business longer than I have been on this earth. I trust them; however, they told me that he is a Bush Nose Pleco and for some reason, I don't think that he is. He's a new addition as means of algae control and he's the most social pleco of the 4 that I have (other tanks). I totally ♥ the little guy. Right now I do believe he's fine in the ten but in any case these fish will all be moved to a 20 gallon tank as soon as I'm able to get rid of all my convict babies. *Mumbles something about fish doing the deed much too frequently* I almost have to disagree with you about the tank being over stocked, but I will not do that as I am no expert. I test the water every Saturday and I have never had an issue with the water parameters. Also, rams being their sensitive selves--I would think if it were over stocked and unhealthy he likely wouldn't be alive. I don't know. *sigh* Thanks for your opinion. I'm definitely going to try to figure out the pleco situation. I plan to post pictures of him as soon as I can get a good one of him to see if anyone can help me identify his type.

BN's aka bristlenosed plecos may only get to 4" but they frequently reach 6" especially males.
I currently have 2 males over 6".
the 10 is too small for your fish .
yes rams particularly GBR (Mikrogeophagus Ramirezi) should be kept in warm water usually mid 80's..they will get chilled and stressed if they are in cool water for too long.
also if you bump the temp watch the color change...GBR's will colorup more in warmer water. you bn will be fine at that temp. this in one reason they make good tank mates with discus.
when you get the fish moved to a larger tank you can add more corys.
don't worry about the danios you are planning on phasing them out and they are not a long lived fish.

btw, anytimes you place cherry shrimp in with cichlids(rams) you run the risk of the cichlid targeting the shrimp.

Crimson Angel- Are you the same person as Natosha24?

Also, about the Plecos.. Their bodies need more than just algae to survive, they also need fruits and algae wafers. My pleco seems to love grapes with the skin peeled off- Have you ever tried any of that?

Didn't mean to discourage you; just wanted to give you my honest opinion! Hope it helps.

HAHA Yep, it's me. Natosha24. I for some reason can't log in as Natosha24 :screwy: so I created this one.
I totally understand that the pleco need more than just algae. I give mine algae wafers, cucumber (a fav around here!), and zucchini. However, I have never tried fruits. I'm going to give the grape thing a shot. I've got grapes in front of me that have already been peeled--I don't like the skin either! LOL.
I really appreciate your opinion. I just get really bummed when I've done something wrong when it comes to my aqua babies.

Whewwwwwwww! I'm finally back. I don't know what the errors were all about, but yikes.

Star_rider thanks for your opinion. I'm going to hi-tail my butt to the fish store this weekend for a new heater. I need another one anyways for my empty, newly cycled, 10 gallon tank that from the sounds of it is going to be home to the shrimp. I may at some point try introducing a shrimp to the ram and watching them for a while to see what happens. Not right off the bat though unless I get more opinions leaning toward them being ok together. As for the pleco, thanks for that tidbit as well. I'm going to start researching them after class. I may stick him in my 20 long but my paradise fish in there are kind of...umm well... mean. I don't want them to pester him because he's quite small. Being so small, isn't he fine in the 10 for now? Are there any plecos that fare well in 10 gallon tanks? Anyone want some convict cichlids? I want my tank space! LoL

plecs are armored catfish...they are pretty tough.

you can grow it out in the ten if you plan on upgrading soon.

can't tell from the pics if it is a bn for sure..females don't always develop pronounced whiskers. they will usually develop some but they can be pretty small.

they are a great plec to have. they should also have driftwood in the tank as they will rasp the wood for fiber. I don't feed mine fruit..but I do feed zuccini.
