Well after a long hard 2 hours of changing substrates, buying more drift wood and rocks, I finally got my 20 long setup and ready for fish.

I need more plants, I only have one java fern, and i plan to talk to MG about that in the near future.

I am planning on keeping apistos in this tank, specifically apistogramma cactuoides.

It will be a planted community aquarium with some guppies or harlequin rasboras with the apistos.

I do need help finding a cheap to have better lighting though if anyone had some suggestions.

Well here are some pics...

Very nice! Post an updated pic as you change it.

is your java fern in the substrate? if so, you'd be better off tying it to your driftwood with some cotton string. The Rhizome should be in the water/out of the substrate.

Good start.

I'll follow this thread, because I'm interested in keeping apistos, too. Since they like to lay their eggs in caves, you might want to add one or two small unglazed flower pots (on at each end) for the females to make a nest in.

I'm looking forward to more pictures. (We certainly are all voyeurs here, aren't we? )

Is the Rhizome the brown stuff. I have mine in the substrate too. Thanks for the tip ill tie mine to the driftwood

the Rhizome should be bright green and thick. The brown stuff are the roots, which eventually will attach themselves to whatever you tie the plants to

So the horizontal part that the leaves all attach to?
