Finally giving my 55 the overhaul it deserves

Will the various species of corydoras group together? Or would I need a school of each? (assuming I did like spotted and juli's)

Hard to say. I had 2 each of 2 different species and they would all school together sometimes and then on their own sometimes. Not to be outdone, my tetras would jump in the mix and school with them till they got bored with it. I've read where other's cories would only school within their species. I guess it's just up to the individual fish. Mine never do what they are supposed to do anyway. For example, I put some guppy fry in my puffer tank for dinner. They hang out together and have grown to have fry of their own now. I'm really hoping that as the puffers get bigger they will eat them. I've already had to dip some out to put in my grandmother's goldfish tank...they didn't last 5 minutes.

Hahaha... my SAE's love to hang with my scissortail rasboras. :-P I'm looking forward to having cories. :-) Perhaps I'll just get 5 of one species, but I might go with 3 each of 2 species. I'll be sure to let you know. :-D (this is, of course, if I can ever make up my mind... -_-)

Well, I finally went and got my cories. :-) I ended up getting 3 peppered cories and 3 that were labeled "spotted cories," though I think they look a little more like false juli's? I'm not sure... I'll have to check out planetcatfish to properly identify them. I also got myself a 1.5" angelfish. I'd wanted them for quite some time.. so I finally gave in and got one. I'm still waiting on my wood to finish soaking... its only been soaking for like 4 days... so I've got a little while to go there yet. :-( I didn't have much time to take pictures, as I'm getting ready for work, but I will upload a few to show you guys what I'm working with. :-)

(sorry in advance for the poor image quality... these were on my dslr, but I was kinda in a hurry... so no fancy setup. -_-)

Enjoy! :-D

One of my baby cories died while I was at work... :-( I now have 2 spotted cories and 3 peppered cories. Here's hoping none of the others take a turn for the worse. :-( I almost thought my tank had ich (I no longer have an iso tank... so I had to put the fish straight in my main tank) and I noticed when I turned my lights on tonight that a couple of my loaches and one of my cories looked like they had a couple ich spots. I was freaking out, and grabbed a net to inspect one, which only had 1 spot earlier, and now had like 12! I thought holy f*** there is no way that just happened! What is going on?!? Upon later inspection, I realized it was just granules of sand stuck to their bodies... the loach darted off to the side of the tank and voila... no more "ich" spots. Stupid me... >_<

The sand looks fantastic. I love how the fish show up against it.

Get more cardinals!

im switching from pool filter sand to a very fine white sand and i was wondering what was your techniche with adding the sand.

did you leave the fish in there? and how long did it take for it to settle down?
