Aquarium Backgrounds

I learned a while ago, that if you use a little vegetable oil, it sticks the background right to the back, and gets rid of those pesky bubbles, and helps the color look more there.

lol just tape it.... i use soild backgrounds now.... just painted.

i do have it taped but at the moment with my water being semi-orange in color due to the driftwood i added.. the light just doesnt illuminate the background.. though the other day when i accidentally got some water between the background and the glass it actually increased the visibility of the background..

Yeah I noticed with my taped background that some parts would pull away, plus some splashes of water would get in between and the background would stick to the glass and look much clearer. The last background I did I used mineral oil and it wasnt too bad to use. And wont go rancid like veggie oil can. I used a credit card (not a good one) to squeegee all the air bubbles out.

But from now on I am painting my tanks black, for most my tanks thats the best look IMO.

sea view

I just received my order from Big Al's (a hour ago)and I had ordered the sea view. I did put the background on using it and it worked great. I never thought about vaseline or I might have saved the money and tried that. Oh Well I had a pretty big order and with the free shipping I still saved lots of $$.
It may be a challange if you can't reach the back of the tank very well. I have a new set up so it was a breeze. Good Luck!!
