We were given a really awesome Oceanic SW setup from a really cool and generous person we don't even know. CL Rocks! Thought I'd make a photographic diary of my saltwater tank from start to wherever I end up! Everyone else is doing it, so why not, right?
This is a 105 gallon tank with a Sealife ProSeries 200 wet/dry filter and skimmer. I don't know the techie stuff about the skimmer and pump, but it makes pretty waves in the tank. :grinyes: It's got a pretty good light, from what I understand. It's a JBJ w/ 4 65w lights. The bulbs need replacing and we're doing that soon.
This is the tank when we first set it up with nothing in it:
Next we came across a really cool guy who is a commercial diver for oil companies. He had a SW tank, but it crashed while he was out of town and all his rock was dying. It sat on his lawn for a week before we found him and he gave it to us! So now, it's really just base rock, but what's cool is he actually picked most of it himself, right off the oil rigs in the ocean! Also, lots of it does have purple corraline spots on it still, so I'm hopeful that will come back. There are some really cool shapes, so I'm excited to see it come back to life as we add live rock to the tank.
I'll put a pic of the sump up soon. At first I put lava rock in it, but the marine forum peeps convinced me to chuck that and put in the smaller base rock chunks, so hubby had fun with hammering up some of the base rock pieces I didn't want in the tank and we now have base rock rubble in the wet/dry where the bio-balls would go.
Also, in 2 weeks, we're buying about 80 pounds of live rock and a good amount of fish and inverts from a guy I found on CL. So we're super excited about that and I'll add pics as soon as we put it in! Not sure if I'll keep the fish, but we're taking them for now and I may trade them at my LFS for something else.
