AH supply kits

i am thinking about getting 2 ah supply 36 watt kits for my 55. that would bring my wattage up to about 1 wpg. do i reuse my hood, and take out the original tube/ballast, and install the kit there? or do i buy a new hood? thanks, im a newbie when it comes to this!

you could do that. they also have diy instructions for hoods too.

k thanks. i am also considering retrofitting my hoods for compact flouresents. i could fit 3 13 watts in each hood making 78 watts. thats around 1.5 watts per gallon.

yea, thats almost exactly what i was planning, just a few bulb less. lol. do you have any ideas on how you are going to do this? it looks very complicated to me..

Its actually faily simple. I am not going to do that since i will be building a whole new canopy for the tank. But when i get home i will try and explain.. wait theres nothing to explain.. white wire white wire black wire black wire and BAM lol well okay ill msg you with ways to do it

I have been using AH Supply lights for many years and love them. Their reflectors are the best you can find. I run 2x36w over a 45 gal, 4x36w over a co2 added 50 and 2x55 (plus a 30w reg fluor) over a 75.

I have retrofitted the 2x36 on the 45 into an old perfecto twin 36 in strip. I am not sure if there is enough room in a single tube strip for an AH Supply setup. I had to mount the ballast in the twin 36 on the outside back of the strip.

I would suggest you call AH Supply. They are extremely helpful in terms of telling you what might fit into what strip you would gut for retrofitting.

thanks for the suggestions twotank, and thanks for the help bk. i think i am going to go the route of retrofitting my hood with sockets, so i can install 4 13 watt cfs in each hood. that seems like the most economical way to get brighter lighting.

Possibly but the problem is a 36W with a 17" long reflector is probably not going to light the whole 4' length of the tank... unless you dont mind it being a bit darker near the ends.
