Very new guy with new tank!

The List

So how about a recap of all the stuff you have, and what you still are thinking about/need to order. What sand are you going with? How much? How much live rock at first? All that fun stuff since your waiting around.

OK here goes some of this stuff is what I'm thinking of getting and some is what I have so far. I guess I'll put a * next to what I got.

75 gal tank drilled with 1 magaflow overflow*
Base cabinet*
20 gal long sump*
12 gal refugium*
Mag Drive 9 return pump*
2 visatherm stealth 200 heaters*
Pluming*
Thermometers Digital and floaters*
RO/DI filter is ordered. It's the one for $199
What I need and want.

Sand, Now I was thinking of how much to get because of the refugium. I'm not really shore about how much but I do know what kind. I'm gonna go for the Arganite sugar I think. I'm getting both live and dead sand. I figure only one bag of live just to seed the dead sand. Let me know what you guys think of everything I haven't gotten yet please. Don't think I'm gonna get much off the internet but I'm using the web sites to show what I'm thinking about.

Live rock, once again I don't know much about LR but I do have a place to get lots of it and they are very good at taking care of it. I'm not really sure of how much of it I should get. I know I'm not gonna have it all by the time I start the cycle. I hope that doesn't really matter but I think it might cause the cycle to take longer. If I put it in after it is cycling but only a little bit at a time will it really take allot longer?

Lights, I have been looking at lights allot, not only for the main tank but also the refugium. I have found the one I want for the refugium but not the display.I have a light that I was looking at but I'm also thinking of making a top that matches the cabinet. So I don't know what to get. I think the other one that I was looking at might not be enough down the road.

Skimmer, This is something I have been thinking about allot. I'm looking at a skimmer that I like but might like it for the wrong reson I like it cause it small and would fit great in my cabinet. I have also heard great things about it as being very good but I'm not sure. Dose anyone know anything about this skimmer.

Then fish and stuff.

ace- wood, those angels are nice when they're juvis, a buddy of mine has them in his 150, but i don't care for em when they grow up, and they get HUGE, he's currently trying to get rid of them because they're tearing through his corals, granted he has 4 of em, but stilll something to hink about

Yeah I don't think we will be getting one of those. I talked to her about it and she doesn't want one now. She likes the way they look when there young but not old. We want a peaceful reef.

Sand, ya, sounds like a good plan. Thats the way I went. Remember to rinse the non live sand good before you put it in your tank. I don't remember now what you do with the live sand, gotta read the bag. The way I did it was put it in a 5g bucket and used a hose to rise it slowly.. junk floats to the top and out. I have read someone else say they used a pillow case and rinsed it through that.. sounds like a good idea.

Live rock, get as much as you can afford. It is going to cost a small fortune so obviously most people don't start out with it all at once. If you could swing 40lbs or so you would be doing good for starting.

Here is a perfect Sump Light in my opinion. For the main light, only thing I will say is myself and my neighbor both thought we could go cheap and get our lights off of ebay, and both of us had the lights fail within a year and couldn't get any support. Not worth the hassle. Stick with a reputable business that has a good track record for customer service if you get a cheap light fixture. Ballast seem to go out often in them. So buyer beware.

Other than that, the specs and look of the light is great. That would be a dream light for anyone with your size tank. There isn't much to upgrade other than going T5 but that isn't that much of a concern when you have 2 250w MHs. Price is great too. Hard call and I see your dilema.

Skimmer.. you can't beat it for the price. I still have to empty mine 2x a day. I would now recommend you get the drain filling option so you can have something like a milk jug to use in case it fills to much.

Yeah I was looking at the refugium light also. I have heard good things about the main light but will see about that. As for the skimmer we are getting the one with the drain. I have to see how it works and set up some kind of a container for it. I want it to it to be nice and neat in the cabinet so no milk jug but I'll find some thing.

So far we have spent $1,007.00. I don't think that is to bad for all the stuff we got. I figure we'll be around $2,000.00 when were all done.

Yeah let me know about that we might just drive up there one day.

they are pretty sweet looking when they're young, but i don't care much for the adult either, just not what you would expect from such a beautiful fish:headshake2: kinda like the ugly duckling but backward:cry:

good luck on the tank tho, that halide light is nice too. love to get somethin like it but just a single 250 for my 37 tall but for now all my funds limit me to is my 260w of pc's, but soon enough, just not the workin season here in buffalo for us brickies, can't exactly use mortar in the snow!!

Oh I hear that I'm a carpenter. Things suck here right now.

Well I wish i had an update but I don't. We're still waiting for our filter to arive. I hope it will be here tomorrow.

I'm also trying to figure out what I'm going to get for test kits and meters. I want to get the things that give me the best chance at this but isn't pro model prices.
