The 75gal reef tank cycle has started!!!!!!!

Well she did that around a month ago or so and they died about 3 days ago.

Well .....the big al's had no sand /live sand
we will wait a few weeks and see if we can get any ,i have large tubs emptying isnt a problem and i see the tank glass needs some more cleaning on the inside.
What is good then ?
Can we get colored ?

Better to get to know our tank now rather then later :)

Update....

SG 1.024
ph 8.2
Am 1.0
rites 1
rates 0.50
Cal 440
Temp 77

Is it possible that we are past the ammonia part and are now in the nitrite part of the cycle already? The ammonia is going down and everything else is going up. It's only been 6 days since the first ammonia reading.

Ifyou mean colored sand then I would say no. I would wait till you can get what you wanted. Try another store.

Bump

I know it might seem like I'm being inpatient but that is not what it is. I'm just wondering why it is acting the way it is. I mean it seems that it would be a bad thing that it is moving so fast. I thought it would take over a week to get to this point and it's only been 6.5 days. I also wanted to know if I could/should take the shrimp smoothie out of the tank? Is there anyone that is reading this that can help me figure this out?

from what i've read on here, sometimes a cycle takes only a week and a half to 2 weeks, while other have had cycles go for 3-4 weeks, i'd say just keep an eye on the trate and trites, once the trites and amm get to 0 the trates should be about 10 or so, which is the end of the cycle (from what i've read and reasearched, will be doing a cycle of my own in a few weeks once i get my reef going, but i'm just a newbie, so hpefully one of the more experienced members will chime in soon, but hope this helps

Well, I think it may be because you added the live rock. That chart is just for a blank test slate. With the live rock it may be speeding up the process slightly.

Yeah I think that makes sense. Do you think I should take the shrimp out of the tank?

Thanks for the help. I guess your right. I guess want to understand what is going on in there. I thought that by it going so fast that that would be a bad thing for some reason. I think I will take the shrimp out tomorrow no matter what. It is so nasty looking. It doesn't smell at all but I'm sure it will when I take it out. :OP
