Starting ,new SW tank yippie

no chemicals can ever be as effective as just pure quality water.

if you dont want to drop the $$$ on an RO/DI set up, then the onlyother alternattive (which is what i do ) is to buy water in jugs, or fill from the Ro/di filters @ your local grocery.

but, you gotta read the fine print, as in; if its Ro, Di, or both, how often the filters are serviced, etc.

i buy 1 gallon @ a time of Glacier bay Ro/di. its like a dollar.

(but i have a lil tank)

money isnt a problem .
can we get one ? we live in an apartment tho does it need to be hooked up ?
can we just set it when we need it then put it away ?

Most of the filters come with a faucet adapter so you only have to hook it up when you need to make RO water.
I hook mine up to my laundry tub, make about 20 gal, some I keep in 5 gal buckets and some in a spare 10 gal aquarium. I mix the water in the spare tank and heat it so it's always ready.

would anyone suggest to remove the water in it then ?
Im a water boil person lol ,always boil water ,think that would be a good idea .
I really dont want any trouble here from management ,moving all our "stuff" would so suck .

my thaught was to leave the water now and boil ,fill buckets (have5) and use that for topping and water changes ?

i am already prepared with 4 huge water pots (for each burner)so it really isnt a big deal to me ,if using preboiled water is ok .
i will not use distilled water or any store baught water its just as bad if not worse then tap water .

ok my first lesson to be learned ,and thank god i had no fish in the tank .
i topped with salt water .hubbys boiling water now for a water change lol.
Few questions please
1. i have a great dane who's hair gets everywhere ,no glass top on yet one side is broken ,does the skimmer remove that from the tank?
i see her hair on the overflowbox, going to clean it today .
2. i have live rock ,just like others do ,last night i parked a chair in front , and i saw very small hair like "things" out of a hole ,i would have not thaught anything about it but when i stood they were no longer there .
my guess would be feather duster worm? it must be starving ,should we go get food ?
I will do my best to get some pics

Can't answer your question about the possible feather duster, but I have 3 cats and two dogs in the same house as my 210, and it is open, except for the eggcrate lids. No problems caused by pet hair that I know of.
I think Grins also has two Golden Retrievers and an open top on her tank too.
Hope this helps!

And sincerely, I'm not sure there are many dogs around that can compete with a golden when it comes to shedding. I haven't noticed it be a real problem but I have certainly seen long string of fur hanging off an SPS branch more than once. I just fish them out and remind myself I should probably vaccum again.

hydriod worm..
Are you sure you read that right? There are hydroids and then there are a multide of marine worms (a feather duster is a worm for instance) but I've never heard of a hydroid worm. You might want to check the hitchiker references I have here.

the nitri test, gonna get the dip strips .
I'd stick with the liquid kits as they are more accurate. You'll learn to be careful now that you've had the first ouch. :)

ty i checked the info you gave ........
IT looks to me like it may be some type of feather duster ,inside the rock and it lets the duster part out throgh the cracks , it even moved holes , the are very small and about10 or less tiny hairy like duster .
AS i left the rock in the buckets for about 24 hours ,im not sure if this is a good thing or bad thing i have here .
We touched the hair and it went into the rock right away ,then came back out . i so want to know what it is ,but dane broke other harddrive (cause she wanted my attention) and this one doesnt have a port for camera .
i will try get a photo today b4 i change CC .
