Is that just one elongated dorsal filament? Or are there a couple grouped together? If it is the former, I am leaning toward McCosker's wrasse and not a carpenter. If there are more than one, it is likely a Carpenter's wrasse.
I just did a quick search on the internet and these are just some of the pictures I found on aquatic fish sites that sell the "carpenter wrasse" so your guess is as good as mine. I'm no expert on this bread of fish but it looks to me like there is either one of two things happening..
1) Wide color variations
2) People are calling any kind of wrasse a carpenter wrasse

Both and then some. I am by no means an expert on the flasher (or fairy wrasses). IDing most of them aggravates and confounds me. IMHO, even some of the "experts" are splitting hairs on identification that may not even exist or mean anything in terms of relatedness or differentiation.
ahhhhhh this sob purple firefish took a huge bite out of Mccosoker's tail. hes starting to get aggressive whoever gets near his hole. they all tend to like one spot.
