How can I get algae?

Get something that eats it. Mine all vanished due to my blue legged hermits pecking away at it constantly.

y do u wont algae i can't get rid of it

You're probably dealing with micro algaes. Macro aglaes are desirable as they out compete micro aglaes for nutrients and by keeping them in a refugium you keep it out of your display tank. They also make an excellent place for pods to propogate.

That works, but always better to locate the source I think. Phosphates in the water, overfeeding, etc.

Not sure what to do, but even right after a water change, my phosphates are through the roof.

Ok, I saw several kinds of Macroalgae at the LFS. 1 looks like grape vine, the other is called "spagetti", the third kind is red and looks like shredded paper. Which kind should I get?

Oh, it will go to the refum mainly to improve water quality.

What is the phosphate reading on your FW?

Sounds like you saw calupera, chaeto and gracilia. They are all good. I keep the last 2 in my fuge.

Not currently running a FW tank anymore. It got converted into a viv for a salamander after my friend's dual zone tank cracked.

I'm using real ocean water if it makes any difference.

I actually never have to top off. I've got a tight fitting glass top on my tank, it lets the evaporated water drip back in. My specific gravity never goes up either, so I don't need to do fw topoffs.
