Fish Wholesalers

OK, How about this. I was online the last few days to find a fish wholesaler to buy a large quantity of fish to both populate a few tanks that have finished cycling and to add too a few existing. Well i found one that was only about 2 1/2 hrs from me. Note the type of fish i was looking for well all SW. So i called the distributor to try and place an order. The guys first question of me was where do i live. I informed him of where i live and he told me se supplys my LFS. Well i didnt tell him how poorly they keep their stock, let alone that the owner is a ace hole. But i did inform him that they do not carry sw fish. This mans reply was oooh well to bad for you. i asked him why he would not let me order from him. He told me that he didnt want to ruin the buissness he had with my LFS. Now i'm stuck with out the chance to fill my marine tanks. I was going to order almost 700 worth of fish. does this seem wrong to anyone else?? Also wanted to know if anyone else has bought from a wholesaler that has reasonable prices. Here is the guys site if you want to check his prices and compare to help me out please. www.tfdfish.com

Its actually quite the norm here in the UK, in that a fish wholesaler "wont" sell their fish to the public, for the reason they stated above....We have a huge wholesaler called TMC ( <----click me ), and they are absolutly huge, but will only allow you to buy fish or their products via their re-seller outlets....

yea i know but im in an area that doesnt have any really good marine livestock sellers. And what i dont understand is that my LFS deals with him and he knows they only carry FW. It seems if you could make a buck selling saltys to an area that is slim on good suppliers that it would drum up more bizz for you in the end??
 
Ummm..... you want saltwater right?????? When I kept saltwater fish(endend Last year wanted to go back into tropical) I ordered from this place:Quality Marine. Yeah...i hear ya.....I do actually think the same as you....We have plenty of aquarium shops here who get their stock from TMC, but dont carry SW livestock....
 
I work at a lfs and if we were to give names/webs of our wholesalers they would stop suppling us. I guess you have to see it from their aspect, most have quite a large minimum order. If their details are given out they would be recieveing dozens of phonecalls a day asking for "a nemo" or "5 neon tetras". Unfortunatley there are alot of people not as serious about their fish as you:), and these are the people who have made the wholesalers lives hard...hence the stict rules that apply. I hope you find all the fish you want, im sure they will turn up somewhere for you :)

yea i agree that wholesalers should not sell to the average aquarist. But 1 im an upstading member of an aquarist sociaty who knows what they are doing. 2 i wanted to order almost 700 worth of fish. 3 his min order was only 200. 4 i live only 2 1/2 hrs from this guy and could of picked up on my own. 5 the LFS that he provides to only stocks fw and they dont SO any sw either. it just seems wrong to me.
 
Wow ...well on that note, if his minimum is that low then it is NOT right. Most of ours are min $1000. I wonder why they have such a low minimum if he doesnt want to sell privatly.I guess there are some people that dont deserve you money. Hope you find someone that does:)
