How do you make your footprint lighter?

yeah well i think we could do without all the nasty stuff that is in the air. especially in some cities... places have acid rain a lot because of the smog stuff above the city.
i dont think that's fair to the environment and the animals and fish and reptiles that inhabit those places. some of those places have no fish or frogs because of the acid rain.

even if it is blown out of proportion, i like how people are changing things that can be changed to be more environmentally friendly, like cleaning products, new biodegradable plastic bags, energy efficient light bulbs etc.

why take the risk of ruining our planet quicker when we can just adjust some things?
plus.. no offense but you guys dont know for a fact whats fact and whats truth. as far as for our planet, nobody completely knows. so why not just be on the safe side?

i read in time magazine that were cutting down rainforest to make cornfields for biofuel.. the alternative for regular gas. i dont know if people really grasp the concept yet. hello? without our planet, there is no us. were playing with things without fully understanding the consequences of our actions.

i know allot of people disagree with climate change but if they take a little action to make the rest of us happy without changing their lives that much isn't going to hurt anything.

the corn for ethanol idea has been getting worse but algae is on it's way!

That statement would apply to both sides of the arguement. Why expend energy on being safe when you have no conclusive proof of an issue.

Matches can cause a fire, but we haven't banned them....

just don't burn down rainforsests with them...

i agree

I believe that man is not doing the environment any good, but I also believe that in the long run it will not really matter. We WILL screw our planet to the point of mass extinction (including man) for the sake of a buck, but the planet will recover and go on like it has for billions of years. We weren't around when the dinosaurs went extinct and that was a HUGE extinction. As said earlier, the world goes in cycles. We as humans think the universe revolves around us when in reality we don't matter to anything in the long run.

pleco- that last statement actually makes a lot of sense to me. who knows how long the world has been around for? we could just be considered bacteria to what else could be out there. the human mind can only comprehend and know so much, and from what we have all gathered, i know that we can kind of help whats going on right now.
kuhli- thanks, ill check it out.

just want to say that i respect everyones opinions, both sides, and the fact of the matter is that these are all opinions because nobody really knows. i only started this thread to see what kind of things people do to be more environmentally friendly, not to have a huge debate... even though its interesting.

Ethanol is not the lifesaver you think.....more fossil fuels are expended to generate and refine it than the energy it produces.

I like how we can guess at what happened the supposed millions of years of evolution and say what we have positively seen by recorded scientific history of lets say 150 yrs is fact and positve.

get a grip folks, you are being led by a media.

I strongly believe that the human species represents only but 1 second in the timeline of the planet we inhabit. Our impact will only be long lasting by our standards alone. All proof of our existence will be long gone within 500 years of our demise, which will happen, at our own expense and doing. The earth will heal and recover completely.
As for living green for our children and their children, all these green issues mostly fall on deaf ears as we are a vain and self-absorbed species who really only care about themselves. How fast we can go, how much comfort we can bring ourselves, and how little we want to spend to get these things.
As for myself, I turn off a light here and there, but drive a gas guzzler and run 600g of tanks so I'm not doing anything positive.
Ed Bagely Jr. supposedly a green guy, drive a hybrid car. Many people do claiming to be helping the environment. Electric cars crack me up. They are saving the gas, but spending the electricity instead. Yay, trade 24g of gas for the same amount of electricity likely generated from burning coal.

:iagree: The Carlin Theory....

We were put here because Mother Earth wanted plastic. We are fleas on her back and she will shake us off when she is ready.
Besides, we, in The States, are really not the problem, Asia is a lot worse environmentally then us. And as far as doing what I can to make you guys happy, I'm not married to you, and your not my parents or my kids, I have my priorities straight.
