PETA's Stance on Aquariums

my hondurans use tools, sort of. the cichlid pellets i feed are waaay too big for them to just eat, so they'll bite them and then swim over to the driftwood and hit the pellet on the wood until a little piece breaks off. they eat the piece, then go catch the pellet again and repeat until they're done eating, or someone steals the pellet from them. okay, maybe not tool-using, but definitely problem-solving.

A lot of creatures, fish included, are smarter than we give them credit.

well lets say we stopped buying fish, thousands would be left to live in smmal tanks in stores, same with not eating meat, our meat will just rot if we dont eat it. By going out and buying a fish i know that i am giving it a good life.

technically. . . once the first shipment of meat actually rots in the store display cases, the store will either stop buying so much meat or the companies will stop making so much of it. same with fish. while buying that individual fish makes a difference in its life, it also encourages the trade overall. if you can't sell 5 bettas every week, you're not going to order 35 of them with every shipment.

Soooo who wants to join my groups PETM or PETP? :D screw PETA they are a bunch of over excited people who have no grasp of reality.....

I can't belive the hostility in this thread. The people here AC are the exception to fishkeeping, not the rule. Most people don't care to learn anything about fish, they just buy a kit, fill it with water, and buy whats pretty to them. The fish die, they go buy more. How many hundreds, if not thousands of threads do we have on how cruel we think keeping bettas in bowls, keeping goldfish in bowls, overstocking, crappy fishstores, large fish in small tanks, terrible living conditions, yet when a group thinks that a public campaign is needed to stop all this, everyone is upset.

I don't care what group it is, but I would be happy to NOT see bettas in small bowls in dirty crappy water in every fish store around, I'd be happy not to see goldfish bowls sold. I don't understand this hostile reaction from normally caring, concerned fishy people here.

:iagree: Quite frankly, I consider myself a member of PETA. Do I agree with everything they do, or stand for? um, no - I eat fish, I have cats, a purebred puppy, and 3 saltwater fish tanks. I can't think of anyone that agrees with everything that a group they are part of does; most people have a mind of their own and don't believe everything they are told to believe by a certain group. I'm pretty sure that goes across the boards.

Hey mandy, does that mean you don't eat meat? You only eat vegetables, fish, and eggs only?
