I'm looking for a new compact flourescent strip light for my 75g tank. I found this on Big Al's, but it looks completely different from the one I've got right now. AN: No way could I answer that question without knowing what you have now.

One item to note is that the description and picture do not indicate that the fixture which you quoted has a fan.

Dual 65W fixture with a fan and a detailed product description including dimensions.

Quad 65W fixture with 2 fans and a detailed product description including dimensions.


The folks at Marine Depot have swapped out factory lamps for me before.

If you purchase these products I would ask for 10000K lamps unless you are saltwater.

I'm running a 75g planted and currently have a fixture that goes the length of the tank and has two 55 w compact flourescent bulbs in it. I'm wanting to add more light to the tank.

I'm thinking I can party deal with the algae problem I'm having by adding more light and letting the plants compete with the algae for nutrients better. At least that's my theory anyway.

you shouldn't have algae problems unless you didn't have enough of something, CO2 or ferts or plants or all three.

Is there an easy way to tell which? I'm dealing with hair algae (which I mentioned in some other posts). I feel I'm making some progress, but it's slow. I should also mention that some of my plants aren't doing so well. There are holes in the leaves and they're brown in some places. I want a lush green tank.

Your ferts are indeed out of balance.

I would try increasing the iron concentration some as well as the potassium concentration which I previously noted and significantly increasing the micronutrient concentration.

What is your nitrate concentration?

it sounds like you are lacking potassium, Rex Grigg sells dry ferts that should last a good while. I myself am lacking phosphates. Also check your nitrate levels, they could be low or gone too.
