?'s about finding driftwood in a river..

the reason they tell you to get it from fast moving water is because it is most likely the cleanest. Dont forget to shave off the bark. I found my drift wood in a stream. I boilied it to remove bacteria. I also soaked it in a tub for two days so all the green coloring will leach out. The drift wood might turn your tnak green but that is normal and don't be alarmed by it.

Either way put it in your bathtub and fill it with hot water, and every few hours drain it and refill it again. Then if you can let it dry out completely for a week in direct sun.

ok sweet guys thanx! i'll go try and find some here in the next few days when i go fishing! i'll be sure to post pics!

FOUND NEW DRIFTWOOD!!!!!!

i found this at a park near me while i was fishing last night. one of the pics has a gallon jug next to it for size comparison.

nice find! If you can keep that up you could sell it too.

I also like the peroxide idea... I have never been too worried about using chlorine bleach though. I figure if the bleach can leech into the wood so can the dechlorinator. Not exactly scientific but I also use a super weak mix and think that chlorine is pretty volatile (letting water just sit there for a day gets rid of it after all).

i like the idea of selling!!!! the park down from me has all sorts, this one the only one i liked at the time.

iam doing a saltwater soak now, then gonna soak in regular water for a day or 2 so the salt leaches out, then do a bleach soak, then reg soak, then let it dry outside in the sun for a couple of days

GREAT piece of wood there!!!!:grinyes:

Nice looking...

I've been wanting to go looking for driftwood for about 6 months now! No good rivers around.... WAH!! :(

I have some dried cherry pieces that I've been scraping and boiling, but I'm always too scared to actually use them. There's alot of decayed wood on them. :(

cherry is a hardwood, so i'd suppose it would be ok. the wood in the pic has a bit of dead stuff on it, but i just used a really tuff plastic scrubber thing (scrubber with hard plastic bristles) and it came right out.
