Preferred way to cycle a new tank?

First off, I'm a chick. Hey.
Second, I put Samus in the tank for a bit.. gonna leave him in there overnight and take him out tomorrow. The nitrites are in the alert zone.. .8mg/l. No idea what that is in ppm.

Maybe you weren't aware but, Samus Aran of Metroid fame, is also as you say "a chick".

I know that Samus was a chick, but I couldn't think of anything better, and the guys who were abusing him called him "Blackface." Uh, no thanks.
And when I found him, he was in a rectangular plastic pat of water. God knows what they'd put in there, but there were a number of things floating in the water. Cannabis, for one.
He did develop the Nazi 'stache, but I didn't want to call him Adolph. Besides, most of the time I just call him Samoose.
