Question about what co2 means?

I sometimes see the question here, "are you dosing co2"? What does that mean? And how or why does one "dose co2"? I know it's something to do with carbon dioxide, I just don't understand how one doses with it.

Lol we are talking about dissolving the CO2 gas into the water, much like a lightly carbonated soda.

I thought it was oxygen at first too, then I started doing searches and saw people discussing carbon dioxide. I am not very good with chemistry, lol.

Carbon dioxide = 2 molecules of oxygen bonded to one molecule of carbon. Chemistry need not be a challenge. The carbon in the CO2 is one of several raw materials required for the growth of plants.

You dissolve CO2 into the water, making the plants grow bigger, taller, and it supresses algae.

I believe you can have an expensive co2 system or you could have a couple airstones right?
