To work at petland or not?

Do it! Worst case scenario, it's still learning and job experience for your resume and a paycheck in the meantime. Best case scenario, you'll have a blast and a steady income as long as you want to stick with them. I've never seen a Petland before, but I work for PetSmart, where they lump fish, reptiles, birds, and small mammals together under one job listing, it's usually a lot of fun. My favorite parts of the job are dealing with the fish and squeezin' on the guinea pigs because they make those little "woop woop woop" sounds. If they make you cross train for small mammals watch out for russian dwarf hamsters. They're out for blood!

We have a petland in our neighborhood and it looks like it would be a fun place to work. I know someone who works there and she really likes it. Just be sure it doesn't interfere with your education. Get an education while you can, these days you pretty much need a college education to get a good job.

yeah what ap said....... yo

Lol, I think I will submint my resume then, I should get some good references from there old fish manager that just went to a different college so didn't have the time and a guy they just hired that says I know more about it than he does and that I need to work there with him.

I think I'll explain that I really want to get my school worked out but I would be able to work nights and that I won't be able to work monday nights due to taking a Welding class. I'm free on weekends though so I could work those as well.

At ours you can sell in whatever area you want to but your supposed to have a specific section, its partly commision though so you have to focus on the dogs.

I'll update this when I get everything figured out and let you know.

Go for it, but don't go in thinking you don't have a lot to learn...

When it comes to a fish tank, you may be there, but when it comes to the rest that goes with a retail environment, your a nooblet.

Agreed. The aquarium retail world is a vastly different place. If you go in thinking you know everything or don't have much to learn, you will be in for a shock when problems arise. Just be prepared for them as best you can. Also, be aware that these pet shops and LFSs are there to make money--sometimes what they do to save money may seriously conflict with your ethics. It's all a part of it, so be ready.

Yeah, I know that I know nothing of retail besides the fact that its just sell sell sell!!!!!!.

I also understand its going to conflict with my ethics however I should be able to pick out the people that are genuinly caring for their tanks and animals and help them. Everyone else will make me angry but I will stay silent, say nothing, and do as I'm told and go home and be just that much more caring to my animals.
